Ready, Set, Go (Holiday Season)!
Happy November 1st!
As the ghosts and goblins recede along with October, November ushers in the beginning of the holiday season. Every year it seems the holiday season starts sooner and sooner. Before we know it, Labor Day will be kicking off the holiday season. But until that day comes, November 1st is the day that seems to kick it all off.
So what does this mean for attorneys?
Well for attorneys it means there are a whole slew of personal things that have to get done between now and when Santa squeezes down the chimney.
You have family coming into town, presents to buy, holiday parties to attend, dinners to plan, and so many more tasks to get done. But the issue is the Court is much like Mr. Scrooge. Like Mr. Cratchit begging Mr. Scrooge for Christmas Day off, the Court acquiesces and gives you that one day off and then it's back to work the next day.
But as I said above, you have lots of things to do and owe so little time to do it.
Is it any wonder that the holiday season is the most stressful time of the year?
So what's a busy attorney to do?
Well, this is where an extra set of hands can come in really handy. Specifically in your case a freelance attorney.
You may not see the cost/benefit breakdown of hiring a freelance attorney right now, but there are definite benefits to making sure that you get your work done in an efficient manner.
1. Help Ensure Your Work Is Quality
We're all guilty of it. We have a stack of papers and tasks we need to get done before the holidays. So we rush to get everything done as fast as possible so that we can enjoy a couple days off around the holidays. Sometimes in that rush, we don't get the best product out there.
So what if you have a huge motion that needs to get completed before the holidays? What if one of your biggest cases hinges on this motion be granted? Well you can brew a pot of coffee and spend a night getting it done.
You can hire extra help to make sure the final product is as neatly tied up as a present under the tree. This can include hiring a freelance to do research for you (so you don't miss any supporting case law or statutes), make edits, or draft a section or two for you. This goes a long way in ensuring that you are ensuring your work is up to your standards even when you are pressed for time.
The last thing you want to tell your client is you lost the motion because you were too busy with holiday stuff.
Which leads me to my next point.
2. Keep Your Clients Merry All Season Long
You know how hectic your life is when the holidays hit, so it shouldn't come as any surprise that your clients are also going through the craziness of the holiday season as well.
Freelance attorneys can help ensure that work is completed on time for your clients. If you are dealing with time sensitive matters, you don't want to be pushing stuff off because of personal time constraints. Instead you want to make sure that work is completed timely for your clients.
With you running as point for your clients, you can seem like a superhero when you return high quality work on time with no stress. And you don't have to tell them you have a couple little elves helping you either.
3. Enjoy the Holidays
This is probably the most important point in my opinion.
Holidays are a time to enjoy time with family and loved ones. If you have little kids, it's even more important that you have plenty of time to enjoy the holidays with them. Whether it's sitting with them and watching holiday classics like Charlie Brown, or how the Grinch Stole Christmas, or taking them ice skating, or to see Santa, these are important moments in your children's lives. Do you want them looking back at their childhood and remembering the good times you spent with them or how their parents couldn't spend time with them because of work?
Or maybe you having aging relatives, and you want to make sure you slow down and spend real quality time with them? Instead of rushing through conversations with the thought of looming deadlines dancing in your head you can focus on the here and now.
With someone helping to take care of some of the nitty gritty, you can take the time to truly enjoy the holiday season. Years come and go, but memories last.
The holidays can be a magical time and they can also be a stressful time. There's no reason to look at holidays as a looming disaster. Take some proactive steps and line up some extra help to get you through the holidays carefree.
Because sometimes the best gift you can give yourself is peace of mind.
